Breaking out of the Bay Area, Broken Rose emerges from the Oakland filmmaking renaissance with a compelling narrative about the human trafficking epidemic plaguing the region.
Starring Monee’ Brehaut (Rose) and Evan Joelle (Shaka), Broken Rose tells the story of an abandoned teen who falls for a man who leads her down a dark road and answers that age-old question so many ask when faced with real-life atrocities: How on earth can this happen? Viewers take in a gritty, arresting look at what happens when we ignore the warning signs of troubled youth.
Director Matt McClellan and co-writers/executive producers Tyrone Dangerfield and Will Uschold illustrate how seeming difficulty and fear cause people to squander everyday opportunities to make even small differences in the lives of others, and in doing so, will hopefully inspire us all to do better.
Currently making festival rounds, Broken Rose is an Oakland Film Company picture and recently took home top honors at the Long Beach Indie International Film Festival.
