Director Susanne Bier steers the story with deft eye, sharing just enough to hook viewers at each bend, and skillfully timing its tricky reveals.
Tricky, that is, because Bird Box’s layers and arcs beg the question: Why didn’t Netflix produce it as a limited-series?
The what and why of this mysterious killer force, the takes on motherhood and all kinds of human relationships, survival, mental health: All these things are touched upon in ways that may leave some of us with far more questions, than one film has time to answer.
The overall journey, however—with its often gory jolts, a few lulls, and some intense performances—is well worth your movie night.
Catch Bird Box streaming now on Netflix.
